US crude steel production weekly report (May 19 only)



In the week ending May 19, 2018, the domestic crude steel production in the United States was 1.775 million short tons, and the capacity utilization rate was 75.7%. The output for the same period last year was 1.718 million short tons, and the capacity utilization rate was 73.7%. Crude steel production rose 3.3% year-on-year and was up 1.6% on a week-over-week basis. In the week ending May 12, 2018, the domestic crude steel production in the United States was 1.747 million short tons, and the capacity utilization rate was 74.5%.

After adjusting, by May 19, 2018, the cumulative crude steel production in the United States was 35.024 million short tons, the capacity utilization rate was 75.5%, and the cumulative crude steel production increased by 1.8% year-on-year. The same period in 2017 was 34.406 million short tons and 74.3% respectively.

Crude steel output in the week was 215,000 tons in the Northeast, 664,000 tons in the Great Lakes, 162,000 tons in the Midwest, 660,000 tons in the South, and 74,000 tons in the West, totaling 1.775 million short tons.
