Z-direction tensile analysis of Q345R steel plate

Since the unqualified thickness of the Q345R steel plate is mainly concentrated at 14 to 22 mm, 5 groups (each group containing each of the defective and non-defective samples) are selected, and the thickness of the 18 mm steel plate is analyzed for Z-direction tensile analysis. A group with a clear contrast in the shape of the fracture after the extension is shown in Figure 1. It can be seen that there is a brittle fracture zone in the tensile fracture of the Q345R steel plate. The left side of the Q345R steel plate has a fracture source of about 2 mm × 2 mm, and the tensile fracture of the qualified specimen of Q345R steel plate is completely ductile fracture.

X-ray energy spectrum analysis (EDS) of the fracture source of the Q345R steel plate

X-ray energy spectrum analysis (EDS) was performed on the fracture source of the Q345R steel plate, and a considerable amount of MnS inclusions were found at the source of the fracture. In addition, by analyzing the fracture morphology at the final tear, the results are shown in Figure 2. It can be seen that the fracture morphology of the unqualified specimen of Q345R steel plate is equiaxed dimple and long strip-shaped dimple, and the inner part of the long-shaped dimple may be accompanied by inclusions, while the qualified test specimen of Q345R steel plate is fractured and tough. The nests are all equiaxed dimples.
