Chemical composition of Q345R (HIC) steel plate and SA516 steel sheet with different thickness

The C content of SA516 is higher than that of Q345R (HIC) and its standard upper limit has exceeded_(C)<0.25[14] stipulated in TSG R0004-2009 Safety Technical Supervision Regulation for Fixed Pressure Vessels.

The C mass fraction of SA516 steel plate is different with the thickness of SA516 steel plate. The C mass fraction increases with the thickness of SA516 steel plate. The mass fraction of Q345R (HIC) does not vary with the thickness of the C.

When the thickness is less than 12.5 mm, the mass fraction of M n in grade 55 and 60 of SA516 steel plate is equal, and that in grade 65 and 70 is equal, but the latter is higher than the former; when the thickness is more than 12.5 mm, the mass fraction of M n in grade 55, 60, 65 and 70 of SA-516 steel is the same as that in grade 55, 60, 70. The mass fraction of M n in Q345R (HIC) steel does not change with the thickness of steel plate. However, the mass fraction of Mn elements in Q345R (HIC) steel is higher than that in SA516 steel.

The mass fraction of Si element in SA516 steel sheet is the same at all grades, but the upper limit of mass fraction of Si element in Q345R (HIC) steel sheet is higher than that in SA-516 steel sheet.

The mass fraction of S element and P element of Q345R (HIC) steel plate is more strict than that of SA516, and it meets the requirement of S element and P element, but SA516 steel plate can not meet this requirement.
