Comparison of 15CrMo steel and 45 steel

1. Different concepts

15CrMo alloy structural steel is a heat-resistant steel with a pearlite structure. It has high endurance strength below 500-550°C, good workability and cold strain plasticity, and good weldability.

45 steel belongs to carbon structural steel. 45 steel does not contain specially included alloying elements, 45 steel is widely used as a kind of structural steel.

2. Different uses

15CrMo steel can be used to manufacture various important parts that work at room temperature.

45 steel is suitable for manufacturing high-strength moving parts, such as air compressors, pump pistons, steam turbine impellers, rolling shafts, connecting rods, worms, racks, gears, pins, etc. in heavy and general machinery.

3. Different chemical composition

15CrMo steel chemical composition: C 0.12~0.18%; Si 0.17~0.37%; Mn 0.40~0.70%; Cr 0.80~1.10%; Mo 0.40~0.55%.

45 steel chemical composition :C: 0.42%-0.50% Si: 0.17%-0.37% Mn: 0.50%-0.80% Cr: ≤0.25% Ni≤0.30% Cu≤0.25%

4. Different mechanical properties

15CrMo steel mechanical properties: tensile strength: 440 mpa; yield strength 295mpa; elongation after fracture: 22%; shrinkage after fracture 60%; impact absorption energy 94J.

45 steel mechanical properties: tensile strength 600mpa Yield strength 355mpa Elongation rate after fracture 16% Section shrinkage rate 40% Impact absorption energy 39J.
