 Indonesia May Coal Exports up to 13.94%

  Coal-rich Indonesia witnessed a 13.94% year-on-year increase in its coal export in May, nearly approaching the 11-month high in March this year, official data showed.

  The country exported 40.88 million tonnes of coal in May, increasing 6.24% from the preceding month, showed data from BPS-Statistics Indonesia.

  Value of the exports in Indonesia stood at $2 billion in May, rising 3.78% year on year and up 4.57% month on month.

  In May, Indonesia exported 30.65 million tonnes of thermal coal (including bituminous and sub-bituminous coal), rising 20.29% on the year and 9.71% month on month. And the value of thermal coal exports stood at $1.55 billion. That translates into an average price of$50.69/t.

  Coking coal exports stood at 1.59 million tonnes in May, falling 36.28% year on year and 18.46% month on month, with value totaling $135 million. That translates into average price of $85.2/t.

  Lignite coal exports reached 8.6 million tonnes in the same month, gaining 8.75% from the preceding year and 11.31% month on month, with value of $299 million, equaling average price of $34.7/t.

  Over January-May, Indonesia exported 185 million tonnes of coal in total, increasing 11.9% on the year, with total export value dropping 3.69% year on year to $9.46 billion.
