ASTM A299 Standard for Pressure Vessel Steel

ASTM A299 Standard for Pressure Vessel Steel

Keywords: carbon steel, pressure vessel steel, pressure vessel plates, steel plates, steel plates for pressure vessel application
ASTM A299 specification covers manganese-silicon carbon steel plates for use in welded boilers and other pressure vessels. Plates under this specification are produced in two grades. The steel shall be killed and shall conform to the fine austenitic grain size requirement. Tension test shall be made to conform to the requirements specified.

A299 Gr.A and A299 Gr.B Steel Difference

ASTM A299 plates under this specification are produced in two grades: A299 Gr.A and A299 Gr.B . Yield and tensile strength of Gr. B is higher than Gr. A. Due to high composition of C, Mn, Si. ASTM A299 is widely used for manufacturing pressure and boiler equipments. Plates of this standard under this thickness of 50 mm are normally supplied in as-rolled condition. Plates may be ordered normalized or stress relieved, or both. Plates over 50 mm in thickness shall be normalized.
The maximum thickness of plates is limited only by the capacity of the composition to meet the specified mechanical property requirements.
For ASTM A299 steel plates produced from coil and furnished without heat treatment or with stress relieving only, the additional requirements, including additional testing requirements and the reporting of additional test results, of Specification A20/A20M apply.
