Effect of rare Earth ce on Microstructure and Properties of ASTM A36 Steel

The addition of rare earth in ASTM A36 steel can not only purify the grain boundary, but also play an obvious effect of modification. The inclusion in ASTM A36 steel is changed from long strip to spherical rare earth sulfur oxide. These ellipsoidal high melting point rare earth compounds reduce the stress concentration caused by inclusion segregation and improve the tensile fracture shape. The addition of rare earth ce to the steel has an effect on the mechanical properties. When ce content reached 0.009, the yield strength, tensile strength, impact toughness and mechanical properties of ASTM A36 steel were increased by 8, 6, 9 and 9, respectively. The comprehensive mechanical properties of ASTM A36 steel were improved by microalloying.
